The Mighty Chums Wallet
When it come to Bandaids or Motrin on the go. Most of the time men default to three things. One, ask their spouse for some in their purse that they keep because they are smart. Two, they have nothing on them and no spouse with them to ask. Or three, they have a huge trauma kit with some Motrin and Bandaids stuffed at the bottom and its a nightmare to get to. I say all this because i have experience all three personally and see it so many more times at work, with friends, and now with my own lady who asks ME for Bandaids and Motrin now, not the other way around.
In comes “Chums” a sadistic name for fish guts but fitting for the California Surfer vibe they market to. This little “wallet” is meant for your trunks, your board shorts, or that coil-elastic wrist band that you get at raves. However… its the perfect “Boo-Boo” kit. I have mine stocked with the most used things on a weekly basis and its stored in my EDC backpack in almost the easiest pocket to get to. I carry three medical kits, a Trauma kit, a Medical kit, and a Boo-Boo kit. In future posts ill go over what’s the difference and their make ups. But for now we focus on the basics and this little wallet my dad got me over 5 years ago and serves me on a weekly; if not daily; basis.
The wallet is made of nylon and rip-stop material. Lightweight. But i have zero qualms about the build quality or stitching especially for the price. It has an integrated loop with a key ring on it for tethering and a single zipper pouch on the one side. And on the other another zipper compartment with an internal divider mated to an I.D. window. Their are over 10 color and pattern combinations and are currently listed on Amazon for just over $11. However some sporting goods stores like Big 5, Dicks, and Scheels have them as well. Its just big enough to slide your I.D.’s, cash, and credit cards in and that’s about it. But that’s all it was designed for. Seen here next to a pair of AirPod Pro’s you can get an idea of mine fully stuffed with the boo boo essentials.
Now onto the contents. I use the bigger side to store my most common over the counters. For the headache and muscle pains. As well as some pepto tabs for that taco bell i shouldn’t of ate. And lastly some electrolyte tabs. I stock up from Walgreens in the travel section. They usually sell the travel packs of 2 pills for Motrin, Excedrin, Advil, etc. in bulk multi packs. So instead of buying single packets at a gas station at inflated prices. Your local pharmacy travel section or Amazon are the best places for bulk single use packs. And store the rest under the counter until you need to restock you boo boo kit. If you really wana be spendthrift use small baggies and just bag some of your 100 count bottles. Just be careful with the coppers….
The other side is for the Bandaids. A couple big ones and three small ones. As well as some steri strips; useful for the bigger cuts; although I’ve never used them they take up the space of a few layers of paper. So what the heck. All stored in the back of the dual zone pouch. The front half with the window has some antibiotic ointment in single use packets, purchased from CVS. These are much more compact then a tube of Neosporin and you can use it all or just a small dab and throw it in the bin without feeling like you tossed five dollars. Lastly are sting relief pads for the nights when the ‘skeeters just wana get frisky with your bloodlines. Here in the central valley we have millions of them. And sometimes, the itch just cant be helped. But this little kit can be grabbed and the itch sorted out with no issues.
This kit is meant for the small stuff. And meant to be easily accessible for that small paper cut or that headache that’s just starting to sprout. I got one for my other half and she has a pink and blue one with all the same stuff that she transfers from purse to purse. Its that convenient for her to have.
EDC stuff doesn’t have to be tactical or cool. It doesn’t have to be made out of steel or leather. It doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg either. It just has to have a purpose and serve it well. This wallet is the perfect boo boo kit thats quick, cheap, and small enough to carry with me every day in my backpack.
